The 9th Annual 21 Days of Clemente Forums Begin

Bronx, NY: The 9th Annual 21 Days of Clemente month long event organized to honor the humanitarian aspect of the great Boricua baseball players, Roberto Clemente was kicked off on December 10th, 2009. The first students art work and writings were submitted and screened by some of the judges for display at the Applebee’s window display on 153rd St and Exterior Street in the South Bronx Gateway Mall.

The essence of the 21 Days of Clemente is to get as many people to appreciate the sacrifices that Roberto Clemente was doing during the December Holiday season in 1972 when like today most people are involved with trying to shop for gifts and involved in holiday parties, but unlike most of us, Clemente was not partying and his shopping was for the victims of a terrible earthquake in Nicaragua.

The essence of getting students from Kindergarten age to High School to recognize what Clemente was doing throughout that holiday season is some of the issues that the students learn and need to understand that there were people like Clemente and that perhaps they too can think about others as well. The incentive for students is a series of awards from recognition from Congressman José Serrano and Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr. to Yankee and Met tickets.
