UEFA Champions League Final Comes Home To Fox Sports En Español
Along with the Super Bowl, the UEFA Champions League Final is the most watched annual sporting event, drawing over 100 million television viewers globally. Fox Sports en Español has the exclusive Spanish-language rights to air the game in the United States.
“The UEFA Final is one of the most hotly-contested and eagerly-awaited sporting events in the world, and we’re thrilled to provide this exclusive coverage to our loyal viewers,” said Raul de Quesada, Assistant General Manager and Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications, and Creative Services for Fox Sports en Español. “This prestigious tournament consistently strengthens our programming lineup and delivers outstanding year-round action on multiple platforms to Latino soccer fans around the country.”
The network will continue its televised programming of 110 live and prime-time UEFA Champions League matches, as well as the Super Cup, through the end of the 2011/12 season, for 14 million cable and satellite households in the U.S.; providing an unprecedented level of tournament coverage in the Hispanic market.
Last year, Fox Sports en Español acquired the U.S. Spanish-language media rights to the UEFA Champions League and the yearly UEFA Super Cup match for the 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. Fox Sports en Español will also have the rights to broadcast ancillary UEFA Champions League programming, including preview and review shows, archived matches and magazine programs. The website, www.ChampionsEnFox.com will feature UEFA Champions League video highlights, as will the Fox Sports Móvil offering for video-enabled wireless devices.
The UEFA Champions League – first staged in 1955 – features the reigning champion and other top-of-table finishers from each of Europe’s domestic competitions, historically including elite clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich. FC Barcelona is the current defending champion, while Real Madrid has won a record nine titles. The 2009 UEFA Champions League final was watched by an estimated 106 million people worldwide.
